Please note: it will help greatly if you can adhere to the following formatting guidelines. This will help teachers, youth leaders etc who may wish to reprint essays for distribution. If you need help with this please email for assistance.
All essays should be submitted in Microsoft Word format.
Paper size should be either A4 or Standard US letter size.
Font should be 10pt Verdana.
Total length is recommended at approx. two pages, strictly no longer.
The essay title should appear in bold black type. The title should include the film name and year, followed by your own title of choice.
Basic personal information should be given on the following line in normal type (colour 'plum' from the MS Word colour palette). This should appear in the format:
Name (sex/age), Town or City, State or County or Province, Country.
Your vote for the film should appear on the third line. A large bullet point can be inserted by selecting 'Insert Symbol' on MS Word, and then locating the appropriate symbol from the Wingdings2 font. From the MS Word colour palette the colours are: Green (Green), Amber (Light Orange) and Red (Red). This coloured circle should be preceded by the words 'Film Vote:' and followed by a description in brackets. Either (Green: approved), (Amber: partial approval) or (Red: not approved).
References
Please ensure all factual claims are referenced and substantiated. Be especially sure to include sources for any statistics that are quoted.
Please ensure you adhere to all applicable Copyright law. If you quote Bible passages ensure you provide the Bible title and publishing house in the end notes. If you quote extensive passages from any literary source, ensure you obtain permission and provide SFC with proof of this permission.
Biographical Information and End Notes
Summary biographical information may be given in the final three to five lines of the essay. If you include this information please use 8pt Verdana in the colour 'plum' from the MS Word colour palette. Website addresses may be given, but email addresses and other contact information are not permissable.
Please also use this space to state the date on which the essay was written and the source for any Bible and/or Catechism quotes used in the essay.
General Notes
Essays are required to meet a certain quality in order to be published. Previous writing experience and/or expertise in areas relating to the film in question will be advantageous.
A maximum of three essays per film will be published. Existing essays can be superseded. If you are submitting an essay to supersede another essay that you believe to be lacking in some way, please state which essay this is.
Essays may be edited at the discretion of the Editor. Extensive edits will not be made without your permission.
Essays are submitted at the risk they will not be published.
