Synopsis

Alain Cavalier's monumental film depicts the true story of St. Thérèse de Lisieux, a young woman who found personal joy and spiritual liberation within the restrictive traditions of an austere religious order. Wishing to dedicate her life to Christ, Thérèse (Catherine Mouchet) enters a cloistered convent of Carmelite nuns at the age of 15. But shortly after joining the order, she finds her devotion to the Lord tested by a grim battle against the debilitating effects of tuberculosis, for which she refuses any treatment. The strength of her faith eventually becomes an inspiration to both her fellow sisters and the millions of admirers who remember her as "The Little Flower of Jesus."

The life of St. Thérèse of Liseux.

  Opinion: Recommended
A fabulous movie. I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy it but the acting, dialogue, costume and set design were all top notch. And besides the aesthetics, it was great story about total surrender to God. Catherine Mouchet had one line that particularly touched me: "I'm in love with Jesus. He's courting me. What can I do?" What beautiful and pure words. As an aside, the morning after I saw the film I found some red flowers on some stairs on the way to my classroom. It took me some time to realize it, but I wonder who left me those?
