After Percy's (Alison Elliott) release from prison, with no family and nowhere to go, she relocates to the small town of Gilead, Maine to escape her past. Working as a waitress in the Spitfire Grill, run by cantankerous Hannah (Ellen Burstyn) and Shelby (Marcia Gay Harden), her dark secrets are revealed, including the secrets of Percy's mysterious past.
