'If you build it, he will come.' With these words, Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) is inspired by a voice he can't ignore to pursue a dream he can hardly believe. Supported by his wife Annie (Amy Madigan), Ray begins the quest by turning his ordinary cornfield into a place where dreams can come true, a baseball diamond. Along the way he meets reclusive activist Terence Mann (James Earl Jones), the mysterious 'Doc' Graham (Burt Lancaster) and even the legendary 'Shoeless Joe' Jackson (Ray Liotta). A heartwarming experience that has moved critics and audiences like no other film of this generation, Field Of Dreams is a glowing tribute to all who dare to dream.

If you build it, he will come

Opinion: Recommended
I think the above synopsis to Field of Dreams sums up the film nicely - it is indeed a glowing tribute to all those who dare to dream. The film could also said to be quite 'charismatic' (as in Pentecostal), in its outlook of not only discerning the will of God, but quite literally hearing his voice. Too often these days we are constrained by listening only to the voice of rationality, whereas God does not only operate in the rational sphere. There is of course a note of caution not to just go out and throw your whole life savings at something that comes to you on a whim, but when something has been tearing away at your heart for what feels like forever, and then you start hearing the voices of those around you telling you to pursue the same thing that you have been dreaming about, then there's a fair case to believe that if you build it, he, she or they will indeed come - just ensure you pray about it beforehand!
