Bringing people together
Mark Banks (United Kingdom)
Opinion: Recommended
This is a nice little film about bringing people together in a most unexpected way. After praying for a friend to make life interesting in her small town, Opal's request is answered in the form of a stray dog running havoc in the local supermarket. Opal soon befriends the dog and names him Winn-Dixie. What follows is a trip around the town meeting people she never would have met and having conversations she never would have had, had it not been for Winn-Dixie. Several life lessons are imparted along the way, including those of forgiveness, the mistakes we make along life's path and making sense of the departure of a loved one. The commendable performances of the lead and supporting cast make this a good film for kids that adults should also be able to enjoy and take something from as well.
