Welcome…

Soul Food Cinema is a Catholic-Christian website that aims to educate, evangelise and entertain using the medium of the movies. The focus of Soul Food Cinema is on promoting the exchange of thoughts and insights amongst Catholic-Christian movie fans, in order to assist one another in making more enjoyable and informed choices with respect to the films we choose to watch.

Community…

In order to assist one another in deciding upon the movies we watch, produce and promote, a wide breadth of voices, opinions and insights are essential in order to understand how a movie is received and perceived amongst different groups of people. Only then will we be able to separate the wheat from the chaff to discover what the positive elements are in the films we are watching, and what the negative elements are.

Public opinion is an essential expression of human nature organized in a society. This opinion is formed in the following way. In everyone there is an innate disposition to give vent to opinions, attitudes and emotions in order to reach a general acceptance on convictions and customs. Pius XII describes public opinion as "the natural echo of actual events and situations as reflected more or less spontaneously in the minds and judgements of men". So freedom of speech is a normal factor in the growth of public opinion which expresses the ideas and reactions of the more influential circles in a society defined by geography, culture and history. ("Communio et Progressio" N25)

To facilitate this, on each film’s page on this website you will find a link that leads you to a form thorough which you can leave your own personal opinions and verdicts on a film. There is also the option to contribute a longer essay for a film if you think it warrants further exploration.
